It was originally the name of an Atakapa chief, but became the name given to what was formerly the Rio Hondo River (Rio Stondo or "Deep River"), now the Calcasieu River. The name Calcasieu (pronounced Cal-ca-shoo) comes from the Atakapan word, "quelqueshue", meaning "crying eagle". The new parish was named Calcasieu in honor of the region's principal river. By 1840, the area had enough settlers that the Louisiana Legislature took note of their complaints and created a new parish out of the southwest corner of St. As the parish became more populated, settlers began to complain about the long horse or wagon journey they had to make to Opelousas. When Louisiana became a state, the large, sparsely settled area between the Atchafalaya and Sabine rivers was designated St. The following are the most historically and genealogically relevant populated places in this county: Cities Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana Historical Boundary Changes - list of all boundary changes by county provided by Newberry Libraryįor a complete list of populated places, including small neighborhoods and suburbs, visit HomeTown Locator.Interactive Map of Louisiana Parish Formation History (1790-1897) - animated maps illustrating Louisiana Parish boundary changes.List of counties in the United States with Record Loss.Burned Counties Research in the FamilySearch Research Wiki.By Arlene Eakle at Arlene Eakle's Tennessee Blog. I understand there are plans to have more guest animators produce couch gags. As we were watching it last week during dubbing, Matt Groening commented on how wonderful it was to see other artists’ visions of the characters. This isn’t a sequel to this first effort, just another new take on the characters. The animation is by Bill Plympton who produced another brilliant couch gag for us last season. So here it is and I’ll talk more about it after you’ve watched it. Normally, I wouldn’t tell you much about it in advance, wanting to keep the details a surprise for everyone, but FOX put the couch gag up on YouTube this morning. Well, the couch gag that was pulled from episode RABF03 back in January will finally get to air on FOX this Sunday, Maat the opening of RABF09 “Black-Eyed, Please”. You can relive that tale here, if you’d like to. I wrote in great detail about a recent couch gag that was slipped in at the last minute and how I had to come up with a score for the gag using just library music. Hyper-observant fans of the show are rewarded for their attention to the details. There will often be small tweaks of sound effects or music, or if there was any dialog in the gag, it might be changed. But even the reruns aren’t always verbatim repeats of what aired previously. I don’t have an exact number (maybe an über fan will help out in the comments), but this would mean that to date we’ve done about 350 different couch gags. We do about two-thirds new and one-third recycled couch gags each season. If you haven’t seen it in a while – or maybe ever – here is couch gag #1. I was amazed that on top of everything else that goes into producing a weekly animated series that they were going to put fresh content into the Main Title every week (of course this also included new smart-alecky things for Bart to write on the chalkboard every week). I asked Matt Groening and Sam Simon if the plan was to animate a new gag every week and they told me yes. It was clever and funny, but I had no idea what the long-term plan for the couch gags was until I went to music spotting for episode 7G03 “Homer’s Odyssey” and noticed that there was a different gag in the Main Title. I remember seeing the first couch gag way back in late 1989 as part of the opening for episode 7G02 “Bart the Genius”. In the last month, I’ve put in a lot of extra effort on our couch gags. The reaction of Domino's to the spate of bad publicity stands in sharp contrast to other corporations. The Indiana Department of Labor is investigating whether to issue the company a labor-safety citation. Richard Lugar (R) of Indiana, who received the petition, is urging state and local action, according to a spokesman. Behrend says he knows of more than 60 legal cases arising from accidents involving Domino's drivers.Įarlier this month, about 1,300 people signed a petition urging federal action against the guarantee after an Indianapolis 17-year-old, Jesse Colson, died when he struck a utility pole while delivering Domino's pizzas. ``He was just trying to be a good employee.'' Mr. ``I don't think it was the kid's fault,'' says the attorney, Kenneth Behrend. When a Pittsburgh woman was seriously injured by a Domino's pizza truck in 1985, her attorney decided to sue Domino's instead of the young driver. to speed,'' says Brian O'Neill, president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. ``Domino's is saying: `We don't condone unsafe driving.' But the reality is that many drivers will take the guarantee as an incentive. Hingst says.īut a number of safety experts, lawyers, and others say the guarantee is dangerous. If the pizza is not ready to go within 25 minutes, it is automatically marked late, Mr. Ideally, a pizza should be ready to leave the store 8 1/2 minutes after it was ordered, leaving the driver 21 1/2 minutes to drive within the one- to two-mile service area. ``The speed of our system is in the store,'' says Domino spokesman Ron Hingst. Customers are refunded $3 if their pizza is not delivered within 30 minutes of their order. But parents, children, and safety experts ought to begin a dialogue to ensure the experience is positive, he says.įor the moment, though, the focus is squarely on Domino's, particularly its 30-minute guarantee. ``More and more kids are getting their start in this industry - and that's fine,'' Kinney says. Statistics show that 70 percent of all teenagers will work this year, and two out of three will work in the fast-food industry, he adds, yet inspections of these restaurants are a low priority for federal and state inspectors. the role of teen-age workers in the fast-food industry,'' Mr. It's ``the tip of the iceberg of a bigger issue. He estimates that with the equivalent of 20,000 full-time drivers, Domino's had twice the fatality rate of agriculture, which in 1987 was the nation's most dangerous occupation with 49 fatalities per 100,000 workers. Still, the Domino's fatality rate is uncommonly high, says Joseph Kinney, executive director of the National Safe Workplace Institute. Federal Express has some 20,000 full-time drivers who make overnight deliveries, while Domino's has 75,000 to 80,000 part-time drivers, often in high school or college, who have 30 minutes to deliver pizzas after they are baked. ``That's high,'' says James Kaletta, director of the National Safety Council's consulting services group.įederal Express, which also has a time-sensitive guarantee, has had only two fatalities in several years, says company spokesman Armand Schneider.Ĭomparisons are difficult. Whatever the final total, safety experts are incredulous that it's so large. The company now says the actual total is less than that, but it won't give out the number on the advice of lawyers. Last year, the Ann Arbor, Mich., pizza chain's drivers were involved in a reported 20 fatalities. ONE of the most dangerous workplaces in the United States may well be a pizza delivery truck. Since genetics also influence how fast someone metabolizes caffeine, a lower amount in some may be more appropriate. Studies suggest that healthy adults can safely consume up to 400 mg of caffeine per day, equivalent to about four 8-ounce (240-mL) cups of coffee ( 2, 17). When consumed in appropriate amounts, caffeine is safe for most people. While caffeine is commonly believed to cause dehydration, it only has a diuretic - or urine-producing - effect when consumed in excess and by non-habitual consumers ( 2). Owing to caffeine’s long half-life, the more caffeine you consume throughout the day, the longer it will take to leave your body.Ĭonsuming excess caffeine will not only lead to symptoms of a caffeine crash once it wears off, but it can also cause other mild to severe adverse effects.Īdverse effects of consuming too much caffeine include ( 1): Sticking to moderate amounts of caffeine early - rather than late - in the day can help you achieve a good night’s rest and reduce daytime sleepiness, which can otherwise result from consuming caffeine too close to bed. In fact, regular caffeine intake is associated with shorter sleep times, reduced sleep quality, and excessive daytime sleepiness ( 12, 13, 14, 15).ĭepending on your tolerance to caffeine and when you usually go to bed, it may be best to only consume it early in the day ( 16). This disruption in sleep or difficulty falling asleep can increase sleepiness and fatigue the following day. In one study, participants who consumed a pill containing 400 mg of caffeine - equivalent to about four 8-ounce (240-mL) cups of coffee - 6 hours before bed experienced disrupted sleep and difficulty falling asleep resulting in 1 less hour of sleep ( 10, 11). Thus, to avoid the substance affecting sleep, it’s generally recommended you avoid consuming it within 5–6 hours of bedtime ( 10). In other words, half of the total amount of caffeine you consume remains in your body after approximately 5 hours. Regularly achieving adequate sleep can help decrease your reliance on caffeine for energy and prevent the crashes that may result from inadequate sleep.Īchieving adequate sleep can be difficult if you consume too much caffeine throughout the day or too close to bedtime.Ĭaffeine has an average half-life of about 5 hours, ranging from 1.5–10 hours depending on factors like age, overall health, whether you smoke, and genetics ( 2, 9). Long-term poor or inadequate sleep is linked with a higher risk of chronic illnesses like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and dementia ( 6, 7).Įxperts recommend sleeping 7–9 hours per night ( 8). Regularly getting adequate sleep is not only effective for preventing caffeine crashes, but it’s also important for good health. As such, prioritizing sleep may be a way to eliminate or reduce your reliance on caffeine to keep you awake and alert, thus preventing caffeine crashes ( 5). The energizing effects of caffeine are stronger when you’re sleep deprived than when you’re well rested. This pattern has been called the “coffee cycle,” and over time, it can lead to excessive use of caffeine ( 4). In response, you may consume more of the substance. Once the effects wear off, you may feel more tired than before. Many people turn to caffeine - whether from coffee, soda, or energy drinks - to increase alertness and promote wakefulness in the morning or throughout the day, especially after a poor night’s sleep.Īlthough achieving a good night’s rest may not be possible every night, it’s essential for preventing caffeine crashes.Ĭonsuming caffeine when tired or energy-deprived will only temporarily relieve those feelings. It’s associated with tiredness, the inability to concentrate, and irritability. summaryĪ caffeine crash can result due to poor sleep, consuming caffeine close to bedtime, or consuming too much. Here are 4 tips to help you avoid a caffeine crash. The symptoms range from mild to severe and last anywhere from hours to a week, depending on individual factors ( 1).įortunately, there are ways to prevent - or at least reduce - these productivity-killing effects. However, experiencing extreme tiredness, an inability to concentrate, irritability, or a headache may indicate a caffeine crash or dependence ( 2).Ī caffeine crash may result from a lack of sleep, consuming the substance too close to bedtime, or consuming too much. They typically present within 60 minutes after consumption and last for 5 hours on average ( 1, 3).Īfter the stimulating effects wear off, it’s common to feel less alert or focused. These effects can occur with low to moderate caffeine doses of 20–200 mg. Caffeine stimulates your nervous system by increasing brain activity, thereby enhancing focus and cognition while delaying fatigue ( 2).
